  1) Why can't I use the ERASE function?

  • The ERASE function can only be used if your media has the erasable format. Please only use CD-RW and DVD-RW types of media with this function.
  2) Why can't I use the TEST function?

  • The TEST function is used to test the COPY process of your duplicator without actually copying onto the media and this function can only be used with CD-R or DVD-R types of media.

  3) What is the difference between TEST and VERIFY?

  • The TEST function is used to test the COPY process so you will need to insert both your Master disc and blank discs into the duplicator. The VERIFY function verifies the Master disc's condition so you only need to insert the Master disc. Undergoing both processes can help elminate the waste of media.

  1) Why doesn't my drive work?

  • Possible problems:
    • the power is off,
    • the drive is not compatible with our controller,
    • the room temperature is too high,
    • the media is not compatible with the drive,
    • the power voltage is too low, etc.
  • Possible solutions.
    • Check our drive compatibilty lists to make sure your drives are compatible with our controllers.
    • Check to make sure there is enough power. Try to use outlets from the wall. If using a power extension please unplug other cords or turn off other machinery using the same power extension.
    • Please check media compatiblity list with individual drive manufacturers.
    • Please contact us by phone or email to speak to a technician for further assistance.
  2) Why do some drives duplicate and some drives can't?

  • When duplicators make random errors the two main causes is not enough power supply and the blank media is not compatible with the drives.
  • Please check the media status, drive compatibility list, room temperature, power supply and firmware version for both controller and drives. After checking these items and find that all these items are working properly please contact us by phone or email to speak to a technician for further assistance.
  3) Why is the speed slow even though I had set the speed to MAX.

  • When you set your controller speed to MAX it will duplicate at the fastest speed based on the drives, media and controller compatiblity. The MAX speed will produce the best quality duplicates; rather than the fastest.
  • Also even if you set the speed to the highest speed the controller offers it may not necessary duplicate at that speed because of the speed of the media and drives used. If the highest speed that the media or drive can support is less than the highest speed supported by the controller the duplicator will not be able to duplicate at that speed.

  4) What does "Stand Alone" mean?

  • "Stand Alone" means that the duplicator can be operated without another machine. Thus, all our duplicators will operate without connecting to a PC.
    • Please keep in mind that a "Stand Alone" CD/DVD duplicator will only duplicate CDs or DVDs from a Master CD or DVD without connection to a PC. However, certain master CD or DVD must be made from a PC, thus a PC is necessary in the process.
  5) Why am I getting failures?

  • Possible reasons
    • The master disc may have damages, scratches or corrupted data.
    • The media may not be compatible with the drives
    • Please take note on the type of failures you are getting. You will receive a error code of one letter "W", "C", "r," etc. This will help you determine why you are getting errors.
    • The blank medias may have damages or scratches
  back to top
  6) What is the difference between a CD duplicator and a DVD duplicator?

  • A CD duplicator can only duplicate CD types of media (CD-R, CD+R, CD-RW, CD+RW, etc). However, a DVD duplicator can duplicate both CD and DVD types of media( CD+R, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD-R, DVD-RW, etc). Purchasing a DVD duplicator will give you the option and convenience of duplicating both CDs and DVDs.
  7) Can I customize audio CDs?

  • Yes, you can pick individual tracks to add to your blank media. Thus, you can add tracks from different audio CDs onto one blank CD to create your own customized audio CD.
  8) How come my computer or DVD player cannot detect my duplicated disc or it will skip or not play smoothly?

  • The main cause for these types of problems is the condition of the master disc because if the master disc has scratches, corrupted data or other damages the duplicated disc will skip and not play smoothly or it cannot be detected completely.
  9) How can I check to make sure that master will copy?

  • Please use the VERIFY function to check the condition of the Master disc. Usually if the master passes during the VERIFY process it will copy.
  10) What types or brands of media can I use?

  • Our controllers support many types of media but the acutal compatibility or performance is never guaranteed. Generally speaking, the performance of media is greatly affected by its quality and compatibility with the drives used.
    • Please refer to the media compatiblity list provided by drive manufacturers. Drives have a media compatiblity list like our controllers have a drive compability list. (Please keep in mind that although performance is never guaranteed compatiblity lists are great references).
  11) How come my duplicated disc does not work but the master does on the same machine?

  • Although the Master works it may have scratches and damages that are not that big or noticeable. Also when Masters are played on a DVD player for example it is being played at a much slower speed than when it is being duplicated with our duplicator. At such a high speed the damages on the Master becomes more noticeable and thus the duplicated ends up having damages that the DVD player cannot play.
  • Also check the quality of blank discs because if blank discs have damages it will not be able to play.
  12) Why doesn't the drives detect the media?

  • The main cause for this problem is that the media is not compatible with drive. Another cause can be that the blank media has damages or scratch so the drive is unable to detect it.
  13) Can I customize DVDs like I can with audio CDs?

  • Currently, our controllers only allow customizations to be done to audio tracks, thus you will not be able to pick chapters, sections or specific files off a DVD.
  1 4) Can I duplicate copyrighted material?

  • Copyrighted material are encrypted and our controllers are not built to overwrite encrypted material. Thus, you are not able to duplicated copyrighted material. Please remember that duplicators are used to back up data and if for mass production it is for legal business purposes.
  • Please respect the owners of copyrighted material and obey copyright laws when utilizing a CD/DVD duplicator.
  15) Can I make adjustments such as changing the sound volume, picture resolution, data size, etc to the master disc through the duplicator?

  • Duplicators are not built with any type of editing capabilities and software because making sound and color changes are not the main purpose of a duplicator. All types of editing to master discs should be done with appropriate software on the computer. Duplicators are built to produce exact copies of the master disc, thus the duplicator will duplicate master discs as is. So in other words it's important to make sure that the master is in good condition and in exact format you want before making duplicates or else the duplicator will make duplicates that will have errors and damages.
  16) Can I duplicate at a speed that is higher than what my media or drive support?
No, the duplicator will only duplicate at the highest speed the media supports. Please set the DVD write speed to MAX and the duplicator will determine the best speed that fits the controller, drives and media to produce the quickest and best quality duplicates.
  17) Do ETInc duplicators support CD+G discs?

  • ETInc controller supports CD+G discs, however, whether or not the duplicator will duplicator will support CD+G disc depends on the drives used. The drives must support CD+G disc in order to utilize this feature.
  18) Do ETInc duplicators support both PAL and NTSC formats?

  • Yes, all ETInc duplicators suppot both PAL and NTSC video formats.
  19) Is there a speed difference among difference sizes of duplicators?

  • No, size does affect the speed because all our controllers are run on independent channels so data is transferred to each drive at the same speed.
  • Speed is affected by the quality of the master, blank media and drives as well as the speeds that the blank media and drives support.
  20) Can I store data on my duplicator?

  • Yes, you can choose to have a hard drive installed into your duplicator to store data on.
  • The amount of data you can store depends on the size of the hard drive and the size of each partition.
    • CDs can be partitioned into 1GB partitions and DVDs can be parititioned into 5GB paritions. Each partition represents the size of the space you have for each master you load.
    • Thus if you have a 80GB hard drive divided into 5GB partitions to load DVDs you can load 16 masters.
  21) What is the duplication time difference between different speeds?

  • CD
    • 4X ~ 20 min
    • 16X ~ 5 min
    • 32X ~ 3 min
    • 52X~ 2 min
  • Single layer DVD
    • 2X: 30 ~ 35 min
    • 4X: 15 ~ 20 min
    • 8X: 10 - 12 min
    • 16X: 5 - 7 min
Please note that all times are estimates. Acutal times will be based on the condition and the speed your master disc, blank discs, and drives support. Condition refers to quality such as no scratches, damages, or corrupted data.
  22) What is advantage of using a CD/DVD duplicator over using a burner on my computer?

  1) What is a DVD?

  • A DVD is like a CD but with a larger capacity and faster speed. It can hold cinema-like video, better-than CD audio, and computer data.
  2) What is the difference between a DVD-R and a DVD+R?

  • DVD-R:
    • Pronounced DVD dash R rather than DVD minus R
    • It's like a CD-R but holds more data
  • DVD+R:
    • A phase changing media with a high frequency wobbled groove that allows it to eliminate linking sectors,
  back to top
  3) What is the difference between a DVD-/+R and a DVD-/+RW?

  • DVD-/+ R can only be written on once.
    • DVD+R disca can only be recorded in CLV mode and only CLV formatted discs can be read on standard DVD drives and players.
  • DVD-/+ RW can be written on mutiple times because it has a has a erasable functionality.
    • DVD+RW has the option of no decfect management that allows it to be written in a way that is compatible with many existing DVD readers.
    • DVD+RW specification allows for either CLV format for sequential video access (read at CAV speed by the drive) or CAV format for random access., but CAV mode is not supported by any current software.
  4) What is the difference between a DVD-/+R (single layer) and a DVD-/+R double layer?

  • The differences between a single layer and double layer DVD are speed and capacity size of the disc.
    • Double layer DVD burns a slower speed then single layer DVD.
    • Single layer olds up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video and double layer holds up to 4 hours of video.
